Air-Fried Walleye

I received an Air Fryer for Christmas from my amazing sister-in-law. With my mother-in-law in town, it was a great weekend to give it a try, and I am glad we did. I can give 5 stars to this air-fryer walleye recipe, especially if someone else is cooking dinner! Ha!

Walleye for this recipe was caught on Lake Erie this summer by Hubby & his buddy. I am happy to get it out of our freezer.

Recipe was taken directly from the Ninja Air Fryer XL Quick Start Guide, page 17 - "Crispy Fried Fish."

Ingredients:

  • Olive oil

  • Dijon mustard

  • Kosher salt

  • Plain bread crumbs or panko (Recipe also calls for crushed butter crackers, but we skipped that ingredient.)

  • Uncooked walleye fillets

  • Cooking spray

Directions:

  1. Place olive oil, mustard, and salt into a bowl; whisk to combine.

  2. In another bowl, place panko.

  3. Working in small batches, coat fish fillets in mustard mixture. Transfer fish to panko, tossing well to evenly coat. Set aside.

  4. Insert crisper plate in basket and basket in unit. Preheat unit by selecting AIR FRY, set temperature to 390F and set time to 3 minutes. Select START/PAUSE to begin.

  5. Spray each breaded fillet with cooking spray.

  6. Once unit is preheated, place fillets onto the crisper plate.

  7. Select AIR FRY, set temperature to 390F, and set time to 8 minutes. Select START/PAUSE to begin.

  8. After 4 minutes, remove basket and flip fillets. Reinsert basket to resume cooking.

  9. When cooking is complete, serve fish immediately.

  10. Served with boiled potatoes, mixed veggies, and spicy coleslaw.

Spicy Coleslaw: Shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, a scoop of mayo, sprinkle of white wine vinegar, sprinkle of celery seed, sprinkle of cayenne pepper. Mix together and refrigerate. Apparently it's good with raisins, sunflower seeds and/or slivered almonds added right before serving. I'll have to try that with the leftovers.

Little guy likes the potatoes and the walleye (breading removed).
