Sloppy Doe’s

We made and froze these last week to take ice fishing, but then caught so many fish we didn’t need to eat them….so Hubby and I have been having sloppy doe’s (ie sloppy joe’s!) for lunch and dinner since we got back! The best parts about sloppy doe’s are that you CAN make them in advance and you can pack them full of veggies - mushrooms, onions, peppers and celery. Brown the ground venison, and then add veggies. The trick is making sure the mushrooms and onions are sautéed thoroughly with the meat, and then the peppers and celery are added for just a minute or two, so they still keep their crunch. You can use any can of sloppy joe sauce, or, like my Mom, make your own: ketchup, brown sugar, Worcester sauce, mustard, garlic (and whatever else you feel like). Sloppy joes are great served with pickles, tomatoes, cheese, carrots, chips, and whatever else sounds good.
